The management of the Egyptian Gold and Jewelry Exhibition “NEBU-5”, which will hold its fifth edition from November 23–25, announced that the application form for the competition is now available on the official exhibition website. The exhibition is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade, supervised by the General Division for Gold and Jewelry at the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce, and the Assay and Weights Authority.
This will be the third time the competition is held as part of the exhibition’s activities. The theme for this year focuses on jewelry inspired by Nubian heritage, This comes within the framework of paying attention to Egyptian heritage and reintroducing it in a modern way that grants Egyptian jewelry uniqueness and distinction on a global level, in a world that, in turn, is fascinated by Egyptian symbols, arts, and sciences in general.
Regarding the competition , Eng. Hani Milad, Chairman of the General Division for Gold and Jewelry, said:
The previous edition of the competition achieved unexpected success. It was dedicated to jewelry inspired by ancient Egyptian civilization and attracted more than 500 designs from over 300 designers from Egypt and around the world. This is why we decided to continue holding the competition, to increase its prize value, and expand it by adding a new category: a scientific research competition dedicated to advancing the gold and jewelry industry, This step recognizes the vital role of science and researchers in supporting industry and providing suitable solutions to the problems it faces in Egypt, enabling it to compete globally.
We have therefore decided to double the value of the prizes awarded to the winners, starting from EGP 20,000 for first place, EGP 15,000 for second place, and EGP 10,000 for third place in both competitions. The design competition consists of two branches: manual design and digital design. The scientific research competition is dedicated to ‘smart jewelry’.”
Eng. Lotfy Moneib, Vice Chairman of the Division, added:
“In light of the tense global circumstances, matters have become more uncertain, which has affected gold prices. However, interest in gold and jewelry remains strong, as they are considered a store of value and a means of saving. With the trend toward gold bars and coins, there is now a major challenge to develop the appearance and quality of gold jewelry and present them as artistic pieces to be worn for adornment alongside their monetary value.
This places a burden on the NEBU-5 exhibition this year to present everything that encourages the development of this industry and to open new markets inside and outside Egypt by catering to the widest possible range of tastes. This is why the decision was made to turn toward Egyptian heritage and encourage young designers to take pride in the rich Egyptian identity, which is appreciated worldwide, and to inspire young people through the competition to think outside the box and move away from traditional designs or imitations of international models. The competition is open to designers from Egypt and abroad, with no age restrictions for participants.”
For his part, Mr. Karim Shalaby, CEO and Managing Director of the organizing company Vision Fairs, emphasized: that the success of last year’s competition was a strong indicator to the exhibition’s organizing committee of young designers’ need for such competitions that aim to encourage talent and bring out their best creativity. It also confirmed the market’s need to inject fresh blood into the pool of designers and to pay attention to local talent and the importance of Egyptian heritage as an inexhaustible source of inspiration for creators.
“This encouraged us to continue, expand, double the prizes, and open new horizons for scientific researchers to enter the world of gold and jewelry manufacturing in Egypt, which is witnessing an unprecedented boom in manufacturing and trade. This underlines the importance of holding the Egyptian Gold and Jewelry Exhibition at this time, as it has gained a prestigious status as the first exhibition in North Africa, occupying a unique place thanks to its location in Egypt — the land that serves as a connection point between Africa, Europe, and Asia.”
The Managing Director of the organizing company added:
“This year, we are keen to expand the participation base of both local and international exhibitors, as well as a diverse buyers’ delegation. We also aim to strengthen ties with African and Arab countries. The exhibition will not be limited to major manufacturers and traders; dedicated spaces will also be allocated for small business owners, designers, and service providers that the gold and jewelry manufacturing and trading sector needs.”
