Designers Café – The Designers’ Hub
The first supported space for jewelry and accessory designers at NEBU-5
• A dedicated space for jewelry designers – both hand-drawn and digital designs.
• A step toward infusing fresh creative talent to develop the industry.
• The café serves as a nucleus for transforming NEBU into a recruitment platform for the gold and jewelry sector.
• Exhibition management aims to enhance the skills of Egyptian designers and welcomes designers from around the world to participate.
To support Egyptian jewelry designers, develop their design skills, showcase emerging talents to the job market, and inject unique and diverse creativity into the industry, NEBU exhibition management has dedicated a supported space for jewelry designers (hand-drawn and digital designs) within NEBU-5, held at the Egypt International Exhibitions Center, Fifth Settlement, from November 23 to 25. The event is under the auspices of the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade, supervised by the General Chamber of Gold and Jewelry, and the Egyptian Assay and Weights Authority.
The space, named “Designers Café”, is based on the concept of an artistic café where designers can display their creations (sketches only, no physical pieces), interact with visitors, exchange ideas with factory owners, traders, and international buyers. This provides designers with opportunities to develop their work and explore employment options, whether full-time positions in factories or freelance work.
Participation is also open to designers worldwide for a nominal fee, reflecting the exhibition’s commitment to supporting the Egyptian gold sector with talent and skills that drive its growth. Innovative design and enhancing the skills of Egyptian designers through international exhibitions and competitions, as well as interaction with global designers, are key steps to developing Egypt’s gold and jewelry industry, reducing reliance on copying international designs, and making Egyptian products increasingly unique and creative over time.
Engineer Hany Milad, Head of the Gold and Jewelry Chamber, said:
“Last year, we encouraged designers through a design competition. The turnout exceeded expectations, not only due to the number of participants from Egypt and abroad but also the quality and brilliance of the designs. We realized there are many talented creators in Egypt who need to be attracted to the industry so factory and workshop owners can benefit from their expertise. Therefore, we decided to provide a direct platform for them to meet industry stakeholders, fostering networking and employment opportunities according to each designer’s abilities and market needs. This step aims to make NEBU an annual recruitment hub for the gold and jewelry sector.”
Amr Al-Maghraby, Chamber Member, added:
“Design is one of the most critical elements in this sector. The more innovative the design, the easier it is to market and sell the piece without convincing the client, whether for the Egyptian market or export. Egyptian consumers now have a refined taste in gold and jewelry. Regarding exports, global competition requires us to offer high-quality, competitively priced, and uniquely designed products. This motivated us to dedicate a space to support designers and inject fresh talent into the market.”
The CEO and Managing Director of Vision Fairs, the exhibition organizer, stated:
“The exhibition’s main goal is to serve and develop the gold and jewelry sector, both industrially and commercially, and to promote high-quality Egyptian products for export. Design is an essential element in creating jewelry, which is fundamentally an art form worn for personal adornment. This year, we doubled the prize value for the design competition, inspired by Egyptian Nubian heritage. Additionally, we enhanced the Designers Café as a free space for designers to meet, exchange experiences and ideas, connect with factory owners and traders, and understand the Egyptian and global market needs. We also welcome designers from around the world as part of our phased expansion plan for each edition of NEBU for Gold and Jewelry.”
